Preparing for college is one of the most important things that you should start in middle school and high school. The earlier you plan the better it is. Planning and preparations are always done ahead of the real test and it is those early birds who get away with the grain.

While you are in your high school, you can start looking into programs that provide academic enrichment, information on college planning and scholarships such as the Rhode Island Children’s Crusade for Higher Education. You may not qualify for one program, but may qualify for another program. So start looking for all possible programs.

In your preparation for college, you can also take help from your school counselor and teachers. In fact you must make them realize that college preparation is definitely part of your life plan. This way they help you more with information sensing your eagerness and dedication.

Another way of college preparation is to go into the websites of these colleges and find out for yourselves the programs offered, criteria and conditions attached, qualifications and other such factors. This will give you an insight into the colleges and help you in advance preparation. Many of these colleges also cater to distance learning and offer online degrees. You can perhaps opt for online education too if you plan to work part time during college years. Online degree programs, online certificate programs, and online courses offered by traditional and online colleges & universities are as efficient as conventional degrees. Whether you seek an online associates, bachelors, masters, or PhD degree in business, technology, healthcare, or education; online education is a good alternative to conventional classroom education.

You are also advised to take challenging courses in high school. Try taking the most demanding courses and stretch your skill limits. If you find the challenge relishing, you can then talk to your school counselor about taking an advanced course. Developing deep interest in a particular area will help during college. In fact, at college you also get more practical knowledge that you didn’t get at high school. While you are in high school, you can also try to determine what helps you to study and complete your work successfully.

A college degree will certainly get you a good salary and improve your quality of life. Think well in advance the program that will suit you and also earn you a good job. If you have a definite plan and think you can materialize it, go ahead. It’s you who best knows your strengths and weaknesses. So assess yourself and plan accordingly. Follow your dream and make them realized.

Even if you cannot decide your career goal or cannot make out which course you should take up, don’t get discouraged. Go ahead as you can always plan out during the course of study. You can perhaps take heart from a recent study that says that over 50% of the students who begin college with a specific career or major change their minds. Once you are in the college you will come to know of many opportunities in college to learn about new ideas, subjects, and careers. You never know that the program you have taken may turn out to very interesting and open up career opportunities for you. As you explore the possibilities and you will see how your horizon expands.

Aside from entering a showbusiness career, many young people are dreaming of a journalism career because they think that this is one the easiest ways to be famous. While it’s true that a career in journalism would take one into greater heights in terms of popularity, it is not as easy as it seems.

So, to prepare yourself for tough road ahead, it is best if you start preparing and qualifying yourself for the position. Many experts in the field agree that journalism is a hard industry to break into. This is because aside from the credentials needed such as the degree and the skills that are required, people who are looking forward to a journalism career are expected to be creative, detail-oriented, and intuitive. Being in college is the best time to prepare for a journalism career, so it is best to:

- take a course related to journalism. Getting a degree in journalism is the best credential one could have if they are aiming for a journalism career. Although this is really not the only thing that matters, if one was able to finish a degree in journalism, it means that he or she might have the skills needed for the position. If it’s not possible for you to spend four years for a journalism degree, then you should consider taking up programs that can help you get started with it. Many schools offer classes for specific skills training such as writing and editing.

In fact, it is even easier and more convenient these days with the help of modern technology such as the Internet. Now, there are online classes that are related to fields of journalism such as news writing, feature writing, layout design, videography, photography, and even HTML because of the emerging market of new media. If you are able to educate yourself in different fields of media, you have greater chances of making that journalism career come true since you are now more knowledgeable and versatile.

- write for the newspaper inside the campus. Most of the best journalists out there have started their journalism career while still in college. This is because being a student can give them more freedom since they only have to think of what articles that would benefit their school community. If you are looking forward to a journalism career, writing for a college paper could serve as your best training ground.

Here, you will have your first taste of fame once you see your byline on the paper. You will also know how it feels like to get your work edited and will learn to be more versatile when writing. Being in the newspaper while in college will basically give you an idea how it is like to work for a real publication less the salary issues and other office political issues.

- try to get as many internships if you can. Internship is the next best thing to working for a certain publication. If you are able to secure an internship for several publications, you will have an idea how it is like in the real pressroom. Internships aim to give students a first taste of how it is like to work on the real thing.

So, if you can, while still in college, you should get as many internships as possible so you will have these experience to back you up once you start with your own journalism career.

Vocational nursing programs are offered at schools throughout Southern California. A career in nursing is still in high demand, both here and abroad. Nursing offers immense employment opportunities, as well as many financial and professional advantages. Through an accelerated program, a nursing student can become a licensed vocational nurse (LVS) in as little as 11 months.

As a vocational nursing schoolgraduate student you will be able to demonstrate competencies in direct patient-care activities and ethical, caring behaviors while providing nursing care. Often, graduates and active students in upper level vocational nursing classes are offered free review classes to help prepare for the NCLEX-PN exam. Upon passing this licensure exam, graduates may obtain employment as a licensed vocational nurse.

A California Licensed Vocational Nurse works in hospitals, both public and private, in nursing and convalescent homes, in medical clinics and for health service agencies, government agencies such as the Peace Corps, and in the military. Some are self-employed working through nursing agencies for private duty service.

The average licensed nurse in the U.S. earns between $43,370 and $63,360 a year-some even earn as much as $71,000 to $113,000 a year. Most nursing jobs come with good benefits as well, in addition to bonuses, family-friendly work schedules, and subsidized training. This is because there is a shortage of nurses, so employers will offer benefits to attract and retain more nurses on their staff.

Vocational nursing schools also offer training programs for other successful careers in the healthcare sector, such as surgical technology, pharmacy technician, diagnostic medical sonographer, and medical assistant training.

It’s never too early to start planning for college. You don’t want to burden yourself by spending all your time in the present exclusively worrying about future. The future will come soon enough. Enjoy today, but always keep one eye looking ahead. If you are looking to jumpstart your academic future, here are a few ideas to help you start planning for college early.

Start saving money. College isn’t cheap. You need to understand how you’re going to pay for school before you get there. Are you going to work while you study? Are going to take out loans? What about scholarships and grants? If you’re ready to begin preparing for college, you need to consider your funding choices. There’s plenty of money out there, so be sure you understand how to get it.

Start taking college prep and community college courses while in high school. Beef up your academic transcript by taking (and doing well in) college prep courses in high school. If you feel like high school isn’t challenging enough for you, then start taking community college courses when you are 16 or 17. If you take a class at a community college you can transfer the credits to a four year university and get high school credit for your out-of-school work. If you have the smarts, bypass high school altogether by testing out.

Start thinking about what it is you want to do with your life. Self-reflection is a huge part of the college preparation experience. You need to ask yourself who you are, what you want out of life and what you want to do for a living. Probe into your interests deeply, and be honest with yourself about what you find.

Start thinking about where you want to live and learn for four years. If you want to live in Northern California, then don’t apply to Boston College. You will not be married to your college town, but you will be linked to it intensely for a few years. Make sure you’re happy about where you end up. Visit any schools you apply to so that there will be no surprises about the campus environment and surrounding areas.

Start tackling some extra-curricular activities. College preparation requires that you show interest in things outside of the classroom. Start a German club or learn how to play the piano. Try out for your junior varsity football team and volunteer time at a hospital or nursing home. Whatever you do, try to look busy. Admission officers love students that possess proven dedication and full schedules.

Start developing good study and time management habits. Take school seriously and develop your own style of learning. When you get to college, it’s just going to be you, your study habits and your time management skills. Make sure you’ve honed them properly so that you can hang when you get to your university.

Don’t forget to enjoy your time as a young adult. Planning for college is important, but so is balanced living. If you stress yourself out too much in high school, you run the risk of having way too much fun in college. If you get some of those jollies out early, then by the time you get to your university, you’ve already had your fun, and you can focus squarely on the task at hand. Start preparing for college early, but just remember not to freak out.

There are many factors that make a great interview, but the most important of all are the answers. Your college interview preparation must start by thinking of all the possible questions that you may be asked, and some questions that you will want to ask too.

Why research and focus on the questions?

Most applicants feel that they know what they want, and that their life has, in some way drove them to this point, trying to get into a college to peruse the career that they want.

I certainly hope you know why you got to this point in your life and what made you make the choices that led you here. The overwhelming majority of candidates know this, or think they do, but a lot of them has never said it out load, had their reasons criticized and undermined, or had to ague about aspects of their decision making. A college interview basically comes down to that, think that you are talking with one of these pessimistic people that always find the fault in things, and that you need to show that person that you are the person for the job, now stop thinking and start talking!

This may sound crazy, but trust me, its not. Start talking about your reasons, about your life, what you are passionate about and many other things, but talk – really – speak out load, slowly, make small comic remarks, add a little color to your sentences and personal comments about decisions and certain periods in your life. Talk while you drive, while you take a shower, while walking to school or walking your dog, before going to sleep… while watching a boring TV show, the important thing is to let it out and listen to how you sound, how IT sounds, because this is the way its going to sound the day of your college interview. And for this you better prepare.

Practice answering tough, directed questions about your experience, motivation and goals, be prepared to draw colorations between your experience and what seems to be the need of the institution. For example, if you are applying to a course that requires strong analytical skills, you should have example ready to demonstrate your strong analytical skills. Some questions may involve topic like college admissions, be prepared for that too (research college admissions).

The following questions will provide you with some ideas and get you started thinking about potential interview questions: Why did you choose this program, why do you feel that this particular school is good for you, what do you know about this program and this school? What are the most important skills and attributes an applicant needs to be successful in this program? What are the characteristics of a successful student in this course in college?

Preparation is key to success on the interview, so try and think about the interview before you are actually there, consider the things discussed here, and good luck in your college interview!
